A self-confessed tomboy, self-taught beauty blogger, singer, and actor – this multi-talented guest on SAGspotlight was none other than Erica Fernandes. Her legion of fans and admirers had written to the SAGspotlight host, Himanshu Ashok Malhotra on twitter and had requested to invite her to the show. When Himanshu replied and confirmed her appearance, it was almost as if an avalanche of fans barraged onto the social media pages of Share and Grow to know when the episode will be uploaded.
It is easy to understand why Erica Fernandes’ fans are so enamored by her. Her quiet elegance and charm are really endearing. Her calm demeanor and no-nonsense attitude are awe-inspiring. While conversing with Himanshu Malhotra, she revealed that she gets her talent from her parents – her drawing skills come from her dad and her creativity from her mom. An excerpt:
“My father was an interior designer for 20 years, so I think I get my creativity from him. And my mother used to have summer camps where she used to teach all of these activities. Plus, I like to use my imagination and try to revamp things.”
Her humble and down to earth beginnings have kept her grounded. Erica Fernandes is fiercely independent and self-reliant. Her father’s illness has played an integral role in shaping her personality. Since he couldn’t work, her mother started working and Erica had to start taking care of the household and the kitchen. This is where her love of cooking and baking was born.
Erica Fernandes’ resilient personality makes her seem like a force to be reckoned with. She sees the world in a different way, she wants to learn instead of focusing on winning. As Himanshu Malhotra pointed out, “We live in a society that only wants to win. They only give respect to only successful people with money, high status and ‘winners’. Few people think about the experience instead of winning. ”
This episode of SAGspotlight is really introspective as it makes you think whether the tiny little issues or grievances in your life really matter. Because in the end, there are no losers or winners, only survivors.
